Buttock lift
A buttock lift is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the buttocks by lifting and tightening the skin around the buttock and thigh area. A buttock lift can act as a procedure on its own or as part of a belt lipectomy (tummy tuck), a lower body lift, or complete body lift to contour the arms, thighs, abdomen, buttocks, and groin. A butt lift surgery is sometimes conjoined with other augmentation and body contouring procedures to alter the shape and/or size of the buttocks using implants or fat grafts. However, if the patient solely wishes to lift their saggy bum, bum lift surgery can be considered on its own.
Saggy skin and the formation of fatty pockets around the buttock and thigh area are generally caused by skin aging, dramatic weight loss, bariatric surgery, or simply genetics. Regardless of the cause, buttock lift presents the ideal surgical solution to remedy buttock skin slackening. It is noteworthy that the procedure offers immediate results of toned and lifted buttocks; however, to preserve the newly shaped bum, the patient has to avoid fluctuations of weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle like dieting and exercising on a regular basis.
The procedure is quite simple compared to other butt surgeries. It is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts for two to five hours depending on the extent of surgery and the number of treated areas. During the procedure, the surgeon creates an incision along the lower back and pulls excess skin up; the buttocks are lifted giving a smooth-looking and flawless skin base. The patient need not worry about post-operational scarring since the scar, after being sutured, will be hidden with undergarments and/or clothing.

Buttock implants
The Jennifer Lopez or the Kim Kardashian derriere, have become a token of sex appeal and seduction; therefore defining both male and female beauty standards with their curvy, round, and big bum. Ever since buttock implants were introduced to the world of butt surgery, an exceeding number of celebrities, and even common people, have undergone the procedure to get a fuller butt effect; with the latter being unachievable despite strenuous hours of squatting. Indeed, the only way to get that hourglass effect is through buttock augmentation with implants.
Butt augmentation with implants is a plastic procedure that corrects flat, saggy, or disproportionate buttocks caused by genetics, massive weight-loss, or bariatric surgery. The procedure contours the body by adding volume to the buttocks through buttock implant placement. Another alternative for buttock augmentation with implants is the Brazilian bum lift, or also buttock lipofilling. However, buttock implants are more or less considered in case the patient is thin in shape and does not possess much extra fat.
During the pre-op consultation with the surgeon, the patient will choose a preferable size (small, medium, or big) and shape (elliptical or round) of their buttock implants. Besides the patient’s desired outcome, the choice of buttock implants will be also based on the patient’s body morphology; which entails that the surgeon has to make sure that the newly shaped buttocks be in proportion with the rest of the body. Buttock implants or gluteal implants are composed of a cohesive silicone gel, which feels as natural as gluteal muscles. The gel is solid enough to endure daily physical uses of the buttocks such as sitting, walking, and exercising.
Despite the latter, complications to the surgery are quite possible and at times very common. These complications may include fluid build-up around the silicone implant, infection, shifting of the prosthesis, contour deformities, skin discoloration, intolerable pain, and bleeding. If the patient notices any of these complications, they are highly recommended to immediately contact their surgeon and schedule an urgent consultation.
Results of buttock implants are noticeable right after surgery and are permanent. However, it is important to care for the newly inserted implants to maintain the desired hourglass shape with minimal risks involved.
It is also recommended to wait until you are at least 18 years old in order to opt for this buttock reshaping technique. Regarding the maximum age, professionals recommend this operation before the age of 60, because above this threshold, the skin is no longer as toned and elastic as before and the results may not be satisfactory
Buttock lipofilling
Buttock lipofilling named also Brazilian bum lift is a surgical procedure that remodels the butt by naturally enhancing the size of the buttocks and reshaping them using the patient’s own fat. Buttock lipofilling involves two procedures at once; a removal of excess fat from donor sites (liposuction) and its injection into the buttocks (fat grafting or lipofilling). In this sense, a buttock lipofilling is commonly referred to as buttock fat grafting or buttock fat transfer. This intervention ensures that the buttocks are both lifted in shape and augmented in volume. Another alternative for butt surgery is buttock implants. However, plastic surgeons argue that buttock lipofilling offers more natural-looking results with fewer complications and risks.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts for two to three hours depending on whether other interventions, like buttock lift surgery, are involved or not. The results of buttock lipofilling surgery are immediately visible; however, the patient has to wait for one to two years to enjoy permanently stable results. In order to maintain their newly shaped buttocks, the patient has to avoid gaining or losing too much weight by following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
Although buttock lipofilling is a minimally invasive procedure, complications to the surgery are quite possible. These complications may include the formation of blood clots, bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary and cardiac complications, intolerable pain, infections, and asymmetry. If the patient notices any of these complications after a buttock lipofilling, they are strongly recommended to contact their doctor and schedule an urgent consultation. Besides complications, buttock lipofilling presents several side effects, especially after the procedure. For instance, upon total buttock healing, cellulite and stretch marks might form around the buttock and thigh area.
